me news

history, rewritten

…i took my favorite book… and by removing words carved out a new story. It was hardly an original idea: it’s a technique that has, in different ways, been practiced for as long as there has been writing…

the ‘tree of codes’ book which i posted about earlier this month, has been reviewed by steven heller who has also interviewed the author on the why & how…

my own copy also arrived in the post today, it’s a fascinating object to hold and examine but the idea alone, of actually attempting to read it makes me feel tired…

cheeky stuff

thanks to ‘cpluv’ for reminding me to check back on spencer tunick, i’m sure not everybody is as enthusiastic about his art as i am, but it still remains an impressive sight to behold…

in fact i even took part in one of his images (shown above) in amsterdam back in 2007 together with my wife… it was a memorable experience: see this related post

a book of recycled ideas – façade

the ‘façade’ book is the final part of a large art project to find new uses for recycled advertising billboards. The billboards made by various artists for the project and exhibited around amsterdam during 2010 are being cut by hand and used as the covers thus making each book a unique piece of art and a recycling statement in itself. The books are numbered (limited edition of 500) and signed by hand. The book has been bound and stitched with multi-coloured thread. Oh yeah the jacket i had made just for fun with one of the advertising hoardings we had left over, i will definitely make a better one than this prototype now i know how the stuff works…

…borrowing the effectiveness of billboards to redirect attention away from the landscape… this permanently open aperture between nations works to frame nothing more than a clear view of the changing atmospheric conditions beyond…

her daily uploads

…indoctrinated, obsessed and fascinated by this view of the “sensual seductive” woman as an object of lust, I try, almost obsessively, to comply with this image, by photographing self-portraits, as some sort of personal defense mechanism. These fantasy images are reminiscent of desires, fears, temptation, seduction, violence and sex. Self images as a sex object, but devoid of any commercial frills, made in my living room, bedroom, studio or bathroom, knowing I can never compete nor live up to the ‘commercial’ image, though revealing my own strength and my perspective on sexual freedom…

i probably wouldn’t be posting about artist hester scheurwater if the pictures she makes of herself with an iphone everyday weren’t taken between her legs… but that’s somehow the whole point of her subject matter: that it so easily gets attention, the images are raw and voyeuristic, but still have a sensuality (to my mind) that only occurs when a woman makes nude images like these, as opposed to the male viewpoint… she has ruffled a lot of feathers with her work and run into trouble you tube & facebook amongst others… she also, currently has a solo show at the stedelijk museum in zwolle (the netherlands)… one to watch, daily
