new work

my latest ‘sssst’ poster in the series for the sugar factory, the image was made by ‘nathalie hennis’, we are also working on a new string typography test for a rather special project (can’t say much at the moment) and the final cd package in the ‘top 100’ series for my artist friend ‘davide bertocchi’ in paris

tape art

i attended the premiere of the dutch national ballet holland festival program on friday, and even though i am not a big ballet fan i would really recommend it to anyone, especially if you are also not really familiar with (or a fan of) ballet

amongst the ingredients which made it such a special event for me, are the presence of electronic music by scanner, beautiful costume designs by the wonderful yumiko and some pretty awseome set designs for both the ‘cherkaoui’ production and ‘dawson’ who worked together with young german set designer ‘eno henze’ on a kind of large ‘stage-sized ipad projection’ with real time recording and timelapse photography…

the biggest surprise for me however was the fact the poster we made, shown above (which was created and devised months ago) was such a perfect fit with the look and feel of the actual show, in this case there was very little actual information available at the time (the productions were still being made) so the colour scheme and especially the creative choice of using ribbons as an image was a to some degree a complete (and happy) coincidence…

baby boom

cute new campaign for amsterdam zoo ‘artis’ made by my friends from dawn, these colourful (baby) animal stickers are all life-sized and (unlike the photo in the previous post) can be peeled off to take home and stick on your own car window, if it’s big enough of course….

more new work june ’11

the first copies of the overview book i recently made for the 2011 edition of ‘fotofestival naarden’ arrived back this week, here’s a short preview…

the book can be ordered directly from blurb, the hardback edition (shown here) is pricey but worth it, if you ask me… there is also a soft cover edition available, which i still haven’t seen myself

succes and uncertainty

…on Wednesday June 1st 2011 a lightbox will hang outside the Townhouse Gallery announcing the start of the project and showcasing the first of twenty-one posters. During the month of June 2011, each day a new poster will be presented, generating a growing exhibition. The daily changing posters will be seen both in- and outside of the gallery and will, just as newspapers do, show bold statements and gruesome facts, next to light-hearted messages, such as casual observations and rumours that caught Sandra and Bart’s attention during their residency. The content provided by both therefore creates a clash of information that will influence the way one reads a poster. It was this constant dialogue between the designers that lead to Success and Uncertainty…

two graphic designers from the netherlands currently working in residence in cairo, share the work they are producing in a country going through turbulent times… the rather well-hidden about page is here

(thanks to ‘hansje’ for the tip)
