tensile strength and invisible seams

i had an inspiring morning talking with product designer and friendly fella ‘rené’ at atelier tejo remy & rene veenhuizen in utrecht about the progress on our project ‘hoofdzaken’, the physical object itself is slowly coming together and we are discussing the typography i wil be applying and how the whole will work and look, an exciting process and another opportunity to experience just how much more difficult it is for a product designer to make something innovative than for a graphic designer…

can i take your coat sir?

…installation of 200 stolen coats and jackets, taken over a 10 year period from London pubs and clubs.

Each coat and it’s contents were numbered and catalogued. Displayed for reclamation to anyone who could give the correct details of the theft / pocket contents. Each coat was tagged with it’s catalogue number and a personal diary entry made on the night the items were stolen…

leo fitzmaurice

a series of football shirts cleverly made (during the past 10 years) from reappropriated cigarette packs (more than 800 of them) found all over the world by british artist ‘leo fitzmaurice’ with the brands and graphic forms & now representing the heraldry and national colours of the soccer world…

his work often makes use of reappropriation of branding and packaging from commercial products, he doesn’t appear to have a website but i found several articles which give a better picture of the man and his work, see here, or here, plus here and finally here

as little as possible

i must have missed this book amidst all of the the publicity last year after the release of the excellent gestalten publishers ‘braun/dieter rams’ volume and it may seem a bit of overkill, although this book concentrates on rams’ personal archive and the legacy he has left behind, eat your heart out apple… i’ll try and review the book as soon as i can get hold of a copy…
