hf 2011

the annual ‘holland festival’ poster for this year is hanging around town this week… i didn’t get a chance to check the design credit but think there’s a good chance it is from ‘maureen moren’ who’s designed their posters for the past few years…

incidentally they now have an online archive of all of the previous posters dating back decades to the very first edition in 1948… you may need to reload it several times as it doesn’t seem to work very well…

the dutch designed

i will be hosting an informal afternoon get-together in my studio in mid march, when a small group of graphics students from the design department of the pratt institute in new york will be coming to chat with me and a small group of dutch designers about our practices and work and the burning issue of ‘dutch design’

although i don’t consider myself to be, at all, part of the ‘dutch design scene’ whatever it may be; so that should give me plenty of material for a discussion anyway… they are currently working on a exchange project with students from the ‘academie st. joost’ in breda and i’m looking forward to meeting new people as always and hearing some fresh ideas

dot to dot

good to see the blog from my friends at monodot in brussels filling up at a healthy pace with weird and wacky stuff, always worth a regular visit, they have also recently added several talented directors to their reel, including amsterdam-based friends ‘ewoudt boonstra’ and duo ‘lernert & sander’

stick with a company

…he found his two sons, now in their 40s, when they were small enough to fit into the same lawn chair, side by side. He found his wife, Angela, posing before a knife-sharp Pontiac Grand Prix in Prospect Park, looking very sultry in a jaguar stole; “real jaguar,” he said, “not the stuff they have today.” He found a picture of his father, Nicola, that he once worried he would never see again. He found a Social Security card issued by the Federal Security Agency (the office hasn’t existed since 1953) and an American Express card so old that it wasn’t green, it was purple and white. (Member Since 64.)…

what a great story this is: a guy had his stolen wallet returned after more than 40 years… (via ewoudt, thanks)
