‘photography is an art for lazy people’

this fascinating series of images (above kerouac, below neal cassady) taken from beat poet allen ginsberg’s photo diary have been rediscovered in the US and can be viewed here

i am currently rereading some of jack kerouac’s best books (ranked amongst my all-time favourites) at the moment, so it is particularly poignant to see the two images below of kerouac in ’53 on his rise to fame and then barely 10 years later looking very sad, disillusioned and drunk…

dda 2010

congratulations to all of the finalists in this years dda awards, my ‘generations’ illustration was actually nominated but didn’t make it into the final rounds, oh well maybe next year… good luck to everyone on the list in october… if the dda’s website jittery flash interface annoys you, this article is a lot easier to navigate
