storformat

the ‘about’ page says the following: a collection platform for contemporary & historical poster design with the purpose to show, conserve and inform about the big canvas in graphic design & typography

but, basically ‘storformat’ is a facebook group full of funky old (and less old) modernist posters… the group has been around since 2009 but seems to be much more active since this year… “like”

dutch posters #2

following on from yesterdays’ poster post: hereby another selection of the archive dutch posters i came across in the ‘tin’ archives last week… firstly at the top a fairly recent design from ‘herman van bostelen’ whose work i admire very much, shown here below an anarchic collage poster from ‘frits hartingsveldt’

here above a rather odd poster from 1976 featuring swastikas and bare asses and a ‘punk attitude’ before it’s time , for author ‘jan cremer’ promoting a record release

dutch posters #1

last week i paid a visit to the archives of the ‘tin’ (theater institute) to have a look through their enormous poster archive and luckily i came across a lot of real gems

i will post several of them (in series) this week, starting with a series from ‘de appel’ theater made mostly by ‘jan bons’

living for posters

last friday i went for a random walk through town and came across a small vintage poster gallery that i had never heard of before, one of the people whom i spoke to turned out to be none other than celebrated poster designer gielijn escher who very kindly signed a copy of his book for me

gielijn (who is indeed related to the other ‘escher’) began his career at an early age and having even worked himself as a bill poster he has amassed an enormous collection including many pre-war german artists such as ‘lucian bernhard’ ‘hans rudi erdt’ and ‘ludwig hohlwein’, i actually have an appointment with him next week to acquire some (more recent) dutch posters from his vast collection, great news :)

not an issue

my friend ‘martin de waal’ asked me to take part in a performance exhibition entitled ‘the non issue – activism in fabric’ and to create something on a large piece of textile reacting to the theme of the show ‘non-issue’, here is a preview of the fabric piece i made and a spread for the catalogue, shown below

the show was due to open this evening but has been delayed till later this year…
