printed pleasure

i paid a quick visit to the grafisch geluk exhibition in hilversum (of all places) this week and it was well worth the trip, as long as amsterdam has to survive without (virtually) any museums at all, these kinds of events are very welcome

if you get the chance i can definitely recommend it, the exhibition features work from a great many dutch designers, from the latest generation dating back to a hundred years ago… and if you go on wednesday it is even free…

print is dead

i spent the afternoon yesterday talking to a group of photography students with my good friends, photographers ‘lukas göbel’ and ‘theo captein’ in the beautiful, old film museum building; it was, as usual, great to meet the next generation of creatives and talk about work and the future of our business

we gave a short talk about our own work and how we collaborate, then did a session looking at portfolios, one of the projects which ‘theo & luke’ showed was their short film ‘noord’, i’ve shown it before but i really like it so i’ll show it again…

oh by the way… print isn’t really dead, at least not the last time i checked…

satellite

…i collect things that I’ve cut out from Google Satellite View- parking lots, silos, landflls, waste ponds. The view from a satellite is not a human one, nor is it one we were ever really meant to see…

some fabulous surreal collections of ‘found objects’ from artist jenny odell, enjoy… (via mister ‘jarr’ on FB)

beethoven 1967

i was approximately six months old when the above image was taken, in the ‘summer of of love’: beethovenstraat 1967, three young hipsters crossing the street looking towards the camera, this well-known and quite famous image was shot by ‘ed van der elsken’ who often engaged his subjects whilst shooting around amsterdam, trying to capture the atmosphere on the streets…

now, local journalist and filmmaker ‘bahram sadeghi’ is looking to find the three girls in the image to help him make a film, the photo museum in rotterdam has recently discovered several unknown images from the same afternoon… if anybody knows who they are, he would love to hear from you…
