the dutch designers association have refreshed their online presence this week, it seems to have taken a long time and was well overdue considering how outdated the previous website was, so well done
the format they have chosen is magazine-like, which is very much ‘de rigeur’ at the moment but has been done with somewhat more ‘panache’ by others such as fontanel for example, this one seems a bit messy and clunky in comparison..
i have been looking around for this beautiful old poster from 1966, by dutch designer ‘jan van toorn’ for ages now and was reminded of it once again recently when i saw a copy at the ‘grafisch geluk’ exhibition in hilversum
this weekend i was sorting through hundreds and hundreds of posters in my own collection and of my own work (for an exhibition next year, of which more later…) and behold i discovered that i have already owned an original copy of the ‘berrocal’ for about 5 years now… found in a bookshop for 5 euros (lucky break) it seems i need to clean up a bit more often…
the dutch ministry of culture (OCW) occasionally adds work from various artists and designers to their own private collection and these are regularly exhibited in their enormous office building in the hague
i’m very flattered that they have just acquired sixteen of my posters for that collection, including these ones shown from the ‘dutch national ballet’ which i have been creating together with many photographers over the past ten years, these particular ones were shot by ‘erwin olaf’ and ‘ruud baan’
the occupy movement now has it’s own iconic image, it must be such good fun working as a policeman… using pepper spray on 84 year old ladies who are protesting peacefully…
the annual ‘vpro magazine’ cover design competition this year is on the theme of ‘saving’ which in dutch has several meanings, financial but also spare as in to ‘spare’ someones life, the deadline is the 12th of december… idon’t usually like to help promote ‘spec work’ competitions but this one is actually ‘ok’ in my opinion…
