…are algorithms that generate curves which smooth transitions into straight lines…, great word: clothoids…
i just discovered this, by reading an excellent pdf document about ‘the history of round sans serif typefaces’ compiled by dutch typographer (and resident of germany) ‘albert jan pool’ which he wrote to coincide with the release of his excellent ‘din rounded’ font, worth a read if you’re interested in these things… more info here (download link at the bottom)
