the larkin trail

manchester-based studio ‘united creatives’ have installed a series of 25 hand-painted typographical signs around the city of hull in the UK to mark the 25th anniversary of celebrated poet philip larkin’s death and his attachment to the city

as quoted from the original article from the ‘design week’ website: …the signs each mark a key Larkin site. Some, such as the University Library, where he worked as a librarian for 30 years, are obvious, while others, like the Marks & Spencer store on Whitefriargate that inspired his poem The Large Cool Store, are appealingly banal. Each sign provides information about Larkin and his work and explains his links to the city. Put together, the signs tell the story of Larkin the poet, the librarian, the jazz fan and the lover…

phrenology and other disciplines

i spent wednesday morning brainstorming together with respected product design duo tejo remy & rene veenhuizen at their spacious atelier on the outskirts of utrecht, we are collaborating on a new project during the summer months which involves a documentary film series, a hand built interview object/room and some custom typography and spatial structures… sounds vague? well it is right now but we had a good meeting together with our client and it looks like the collaboration could be a very fruitful one…

it was also great to visit their chaotic work space, see some of the ongoing experimental work and all share our ideas and vision on the new project ahead… more news soon, also check out their own ‘work in progress’ blog

la 22e édition

the updated festival website for the 2011 edition of the renowned ‘chaumont poster festival’ is now online, the opening weekend: 28-29th of may promises a number of interesting events and the dutch are as usual, already well represented amongst the participants, including ‘michiel schuurman’ who must surely feature amongst the winners this year?, we’ll see

as usual i’m sat here in amsterdam behind a mac writing about the event instead of going along or entering work myself, i really need to make sure that changes next year (did i just think that to myself or write it down? he wonders…)
