vernacular views

there are many sites that deal in type vernacular, such as the canadian villatype to which i have been an irregular contributor over the years, but this particular one called simply: vernacular typography is a really good example of its kind, good find… (via joachim baan)

glam duo

i’m not a big follower of fashion magazines, as the recent introduction of the dutch version of ‘vogue’ confirmed, to my eyes they all look-alike and seem to be very much devoted to pleasing the whims of their advertisers…

perhaps that is the name of the game? but one exception to the rule is ‘glamcult’ not only does they opt for a different format (full-colour newspaper, recently downsized to neater proportions) but glamcult has it’s own distinctive look and is furthermore free… it seems you can survive on advertising revenue alone without compromising your own voice…

they shoot many of their own series like these two recent ones from talented local photographers (and actually a couple, who regularly work together) barrie hullegie (two shown above) and sabrina bongiovanni (lower two images shown below)

paper sculpture

…a modified ink-jet printer to print grid-like patterns that fold and contort a piece of paper, transforming it from a 2D paper sheet into a 3D volume…

this looks like a really exciting idea: ‘hydro-fold’… the video cannot be embedded currently, see it here (via cat-lover & part-time philosopher ‘jean louis d’)
