what a fun idea… a design competition with a difference: the idea behind threadcakes is to choose a random illustration from the well-known crowdsourced t-shirt website threadless and turn it into a cake…

apparently they are having difficulty choosing winners due to the high quality of all entries and the sheer effort people are putting into them, some of them really are amazing

the internet map

…unlike real maps (e.g. the map of the Earth) or virtual maps (e.g. the map of Mordor), the objects shown on it are not aligned on a surface. Mathematically speaking, The Internet map is a bi-dimensional presentation of links between websites on the Internet. Every site is a circle on the map, and its size is determined by website traffic, the larger the amount of traffic, the bigger the circle. Users’ switching between websites forms links, and the stronger the link, the closer the websites tend to arrange themselves to each other…

as often is the case, the swimming events have produced some of the most bizarre & spectacular olympic games imagery; shown respectively: ‘clark’ USA, ‘seebohm’ australia and ‘arevalo salinas’ ecuador

ok that’s enough olympic mania for now, back to ‘normal’ stuff…

sharp as a pin

free UK newspaper ‘metro’, has produced a series of special cover wrap-arounds for the olympics, featuring portraits of winning athletes such as ‘jessica ennis’ by the inimitable ‘ian wright’; made with one of my own favourite materials: steel pins… beautiful

update: the series was conceived by agency ‘sid lee’ in collaboration with ‘adidas’
