united nations of tweet

…in relative terms, the world’s top tweeting nation are the Netherlands, with just over 22% of the Dutch online population using Twitter. The US, at 8%, is far behind Brazil (almost 22%), Venezuela (21%) and Indonesia (19%). So it’s a fair guess that a majority of the 200 million tweets generated every day are in languages other than English…

the world as depicted through the varied languages used on twitter, as usual with other similar projects the whole continent of africa is virtually invisible, surprise ‘hot spot’ on this one is the netherlands… see the hi-res image here

…i collect things that I’ve cut out from Google Satellite View- parking lots, silos, landflls, waste ponds. The view from a satellite is not a human one, nor is it one we were ever really meant to see…

…the highest path represents the sun’s “peak”, when it appears highest in the sky, which takes place on 21 June in the northern hemisphere. After this day the trails grow shorter and climb lower in the sky, revealing the approach of winter. together, the 23.5-degree tilt in the Earth’s axis and its revolution around the sun are what give us our seasons. This striking image illustrates these changes and reveals the passage of time…

‘justin quinell’ fromthe UK made a makeshift pinhole camera using a beer can, which he then left outdoors for three months the result is a fascinating image of the sun’s trajectroy across the sky during that period…

it reminds me a lot of the work of german photographer michael wesely whom i blogged about back in ’07

i am really loving this fellas work: todd mclellan who takes things apart, then organises them neatly… it’s the kind of semi-autistic occupation i also like to indulge in at times… although he does it a lot better than i ever could
