‘the devil makes work for idle hands’ as they say in england… for several years now my friend ‘afke besseling’ has been making a series of naive illustrations which she dubs ‘verveelkunst’ (boredom art) from the poetic to the the absurd it is a series of roughly drawn almost diary like observations, some of which, at least, seem to be autobiographical
the series which are all drawn freehand on a computer using bright colours and coarse random typeface choices, cannot be found online (unless you are friends with her on facebook), she doesn’t appear to have any ulterior motive with the series (it is merely a hobby) and they are not for sale, which only makes me want to own a few even more… ‘hi mum, it’s me, yes i still sleep with my socks on…’

the BBC reports on some errors in the new ‘times atlas of the world’, redrawing the coastline of greenland to show the receding ice levels, but incorrectly it would seem…

ok, i know i’m not the only one using string and it’s flattering to be mentioned, but please don’t call it art, it’s not… you’d be surprised how may exact copies i have seen (or people have sent me) of my own work, in the past year, in fact i might just make a round up of some and post them soon…
