open days

four posters we have just created for the ‘amsterdam music theater’ for their annual ‘open day’ when the building and stages are open to the general public in the city,

this years theme was ‘crafts’ i.e. all of the many talented people who work backstage making costumes, weaving wigs, designing sets and contributing in all kinds of ways to the final performances on stage, but who are often not seen or understood, we decided to portray ‘the hands that do the work’

the pictures were shot by ‘sander van der duin’ and myself… we deliberately chose a different style for the imagery to emphasise the fact that these posters are not intended to communicate a dance/opera performance but a wholly different kind of event

puleʻanga fakatuʻi ʻo tonga

the tiny pacific kingdom of tonga has been in the news this week for sad reasons (their king passed away) what i noticed though, is their strikingly modern flag, which was actually based on the ‘red cross’ flag initially

plus this charming clause in the kingdom’s constitution regarding the flag: …the Flag of Tonga shall never be altered but shall always be the flag of the Kingdom…, ok that’s clear…

visual communication

the first printed stuff of our new identity for newly launched eyewear brand ‘suzy glam’ arrived this week, there are as yet no actual products (i.e. glasses) yet, everything is in the prototype phase but i’m really looking forward to seeing the finished result (and hopefully getting myself a funky new pair of specs)

fashion pirate

i’m not a big fan of ‘karl lagerfeld’ to say the least… but i really love the way he circumvented the ubiquitous ‘ID cover brief’ for his own self portrait shoot (one eye open, one closed to mimic the ID logo) without having to remove his sunglasses…
