british comedian ‘eddie izzard’ once did an absolutely hilarious sketch about the fine line between being cool & looking like a dickhead… the theory is this: you start of at the bottom of a circle (looking like a dickhead) as you become cooler you progress around the circle, gathering coolness until you go just a bit too far and… hey presto! you’re back to looking like a dickhead… brilliant
ipad = cool
hacking hardware to do stuff it shouldn’t = even cooler…
ipad phone calls = yep… it’s back to dickhead
street you?
if you were walking around amsterdam on the 6th of august you may well end up being portrayed in the upcoming update to street view, my own google portrait dating back from 2006 will probably then disappear… watch this space (images via thomas schlijper’s daily image blog & story via ‘bright’)
the image of korea
i received an email this week with a large pdf file from korean designer mister han changkyu and although the mail was a little difficult to understand i believe he wanted to share his work with me, so here they are (my selection)
the posters all have rather poetic titles such as ‘be warm hearted’ and ‘the beauty of line’ and the aesthetic is so completely different to the one my western eyes are trained with that i find it very difficult to judge them at face value… the mix of colour, found objects (classical statues and ceramic pots etc.) and a lack of a large central ‘focal point’ in many of them is however very interesting, thanks for sharing…

this little video piece made by ‘azalea lee’ (great name) is really charming, the solutions that people come up whilst playing with the coloured blocks is almost a sub-text to the main thread or plot: the people, their characters, style of dress and behaviour in front of the camera… very nice
