50 years on paper

in preparation for the ’50 years of ballet posters’ event we are taking part in at the dutch poster museum starting late january, i am currently making a poster for the exhibition

the idea was fairly simple: an abstract tutu/dancing figure made out of folded ballet posters, actually getting it work is taking a little bit more time however… more news soon

lebeau

these are some more of the amazing posters i saw last week (see previous post) from a dutch (as yet unknown to me) artist/designer called ‘chris lebeau’ who was active in the period in between the two wars, he was an amazing woodcutter and typographer, lebeau eventually died in a german prison camp near the end of the war… definitely someone who i will be doing some more research on this coming year… any tips on this fascinating figure are very welcome…

poster inspiration

on a visit to the dutch poster museum last week, i came across some beautiful work whilst taking advantage of a rare opportunity to sniff around in their cellar archives, the above posters are polish circus posters with a great and to my mind, strange ‘dark’ vibe…

the ‘dantons dood’ poster shown above by ‘nicholaas wijnberg’ from 1958, is said to have been the catalyst for ‘anton beeke’ to become a poster designer himself…
