my first association was the tokyo series from michael wolf although these candid black & white shots were made much earlier, photographer john schabel captured these final anxious moments before taking off during the 90’s…
a book of this series entitled ‘passengers’ is also due for imminent release (via my mate ‘ian barlow’)

my good friend ‘andrĂ© thijssen’ recommended this publication ‘amc2’ in the correct assumption that it would appeal to me
the archive of modern conflict is a british publication which concerns itself with curating the vernacular, although i have yet to hold a copy in my hands what i find appealing about these kinds of publications is that seemingly random imagery can often accumulate new and unexpected/unintended meaning when combined in a new way, as one comment on the website puts it neatly: …there is strength in inconsistency…
the magazine has been released (at irregular intervals) four times so far and short extracts can be viewed online, the subject matter and perhaps even the name somehow reminded me of the instititute for concrete matter here in the netherlands
