not everyone’s type

I just wanted to share a great place I discovered this week; situated halfway between our appartment and my office, on the Singel near Dam Square.

letterpress amsterdam is a small type studio that produces all kinds of exotic bespoke printed matter. The friendly owner Thomas spent some time to show me around and explain what he does with his two wonderful old presses, metal typesetting and some funky old wooden type blocks. I am certainly going to be going back there very soon.

Oh yeah and pssst… try and keep it a secret otherwise everyone will want to go there too.

a good book

…i love books. Yet I’ve never bought one just to own it. What fascinates me is their utility value: books can teach us things. It’s not only the writer that speaks to us. If we listen more closely, we can hear the voice of the designer or eavesdrop on the concert of materials. Books appeal not only to our eyes and ears: some we fall in love with the moment we take them in our hands. Many books also communicate non-verbally – they can flirt and seduce…

no coincidence

logothief1

a website that aims to ‘name and shame’ those who blatantly plagiarise or steal other peoples work (the images don’t appear to load properly for me, in firefox)
