the UK, like the netherlands is on the verge of making huge and extremely damaging cuts to the arts, effectively handing the keys over to the money men… here is a sobering and funny perspective on the implications from mister ‘david shrigley, enjoy…
one of the projects i will be working on in the coming weeks is a new image & poster for the dutch national ballet, for the first time ever without dancers (hoorah!) but just using objects and abstract movement
i will be working together with talented dutch stills photographer bart oomes, we have yet to decide what the idea will be but the subject is a very inspiring one anyway: a new choreography by belgian/moroccan rising star ‘sidi larbi chekaoui’ plus another from young british choreographer ‘david dawson’
chekaoui regularly works with other inspiring people himself such as british artist ‘antony gormley’ for example, on his ballet ‘sutra’ where he trained a whole group of ‘shaolin monks’ to dance the piece, sounds hard to imagine? here’s a preview of his amazing work below… i’m really looking forward to working on this project…
‘dazed digital’ has a small interview with musician ‘jon hopkins’ and the online première of his stunning little video for four tet
the video construct is basically to play around with the pitch and tempo of the dancers movement using cuts and overlays with a 3D glasses ‘filter look’… very nice indeed, one of my favourites so far this year, but being a huge ‘four tet’ fan, i am very biased of course…
