the ‘images for the future’ project for which i also designed a book (last year) has recently commissioned local production company plus one to make a short film (a neat mix of animation, live action & cgi) to explain the project’s goals (conservation and digitization of holland’s audiovisual heritage) to a wide audience, very nice indeed…
(tip via ‘thijs’ who actually commissioned the film)

referencing homer

an amusing compilation of fragments in which hollywood movies have referenced famous scenes from the simpsons, or should that be the other way round?

don van vliet
psychedelic shaman, borderline genius…. captian beefheart (who has just sadly passed away) is admittedly not somebody i know a lot about, however this documentary (narrated by the wonderful ‘john peel’) goes a long way to explaining what he was about, worth a watch (tip via ‘peter van deursen’, thanks!)
the centre of the universe
…the date is 1609, Italy, late night at Galileo Galilei’s workplace watching the sky, studying celestial bodies focusing on the moon. He prepares to see this unexplored world with his customized telescope while some of his sketches and notes rest on the floor…

nice animation from recent graduate juan behrens (via cpluv)
royal ties
in theory… in theory, i’m attending an event in the royal palace on dam square this afternoon, in the presence of queen beatrix and (close to 500) guests for the annual ‘prince claus fund’ art prize ceremony, in other words all the effort put into my string titles sequence is going to fly by in a few seconds… gone
i still can’t show the final thing here (beatrix first…) but here’s a new test section with some of the finished title pieces… the music was custom made by ‘music skeleton’ and the film will be divided up onto three separate projection screens, should be fun…
on a sidenote: the fact that my personal invite still hasn’t arrived makes me wonder whether the secret police will let me in… we’ll see, wish me luck
