seventy five

penguin is one of those institutions that brits always cite when it comes to british design classics and they are celebrating their seventy fifth birthday this year, with a new book (actually being released by penguin USA) entitled ‘penguin 75’

there is an in-depth interview about the book with the creative director of penguin ‘paul buckley’ over on design related this month and amongst the contributors to the book are ‘chris ware’ and ‘art spiegelman’, sounds great and i’ve already ordered it…

circles and dots

…my personal collection and shrine to these expressive shapes along with their slightly less jovial but equally effective cousins; squares, rectangles and triangles, and the designers that make them come to life on album covers…

an online archive of old (geometric) vinyl sleeves with contributions like the beautiful one (at the top) from such notable figures as ‘saul bass’… the editors from ‘jive time records’ promise regular updates on project thirty three, by the way i reckon that ‘circles and dots’ is just about the best name i’ve ever heard for a record company… (tip via ‘uwe’)
