polish birds

art student ‘sanne van houten’ who visited me yetsrerday made a beautiful series of illustrations with a technique i had never seen before: she used brightly coloured nail polish to create a series of delicate birds, see the whole set (in better resolution) right here

the originals were however much more vibrant and layered in real life…

…our most recent cover was quite the challenge for the illustrator Tim Enthoven. He spent 60 hours illustrating 1,028 people for our article on Gilad Shalit. By hand. Enthoven drew each original figure at about 0.8-by-0.2 inches with Pigma Micron fineliners. “The pain” was the hardest part of the assignment, he says…

identity crisis

when my friend martyn needed a model for an archetypal ‘advertising man’ for a full page illustration in todays edition of dutch national newspaper ‘de volkskrant’, guess who he chose; ha ha, hmm not sure if i should be flattered or insulted…
