the very last poster for the dutch national ballet; i know i said that before, but i think this really is the final one… it’s been almost exactly twelve years since i made my first work for them

here is an overview of the small identity using simple flags, banners and stage decorations we made; to provide a colourful backdrop for/and to announce the ‘samen door mandela’ (united by mandela) celebrations organised in amsterdam on the weekend of the 14-15th of december, with live performances and shows based around mandela and his life…

the image of mandela we used, was shot in 1990 from the balcony of the ‘stadsschouwburg’ where mandela stood when he visited amsterdam after his release (see image above, top right)

this building and the ‘melkweg’ nightclub were the two venues used for the celebrations during the whole weekend


we chose to make a limited amount of designs and repeat them often to create a greater impact because of the large area (around leidseplein; both indoors and outdoors) that we needed to cover…
