nice to see there are still designers and artists out there making lo-tech, black & white fanzines like this funky little series entitled ‘houtskool’ (the dutch word for charcoal), many thanks to contributor bas koopmans a.k.a. baster for sending me a set… it is published quarterly in an edition 0f 750 copies…
me news
stack ’em high
ok sure, the kind of porn one likes is strictly a matter of personal taste, but this is definitely my kind
i just can’t get enough of this…
the downside of internet
nijhof & lee…have reduced the space in many living rooms and many studio’s of artists and designers…
not the best news to end the year with: one of the world’s best type, design & photography bookshops (round the corner here in amsterdam) is closing it’s doors in a month
following the sad death of frank nijhof two years ago, it was always unclear how long warren would continue without his partner… well that time has come, fortunately the shop will remain open online and there is going to be a large clearance sale early next month (oh dear…) but the whole point of the shop for me was discovering books with your eyes, nose and hands… the way books should be discovered… so now where do i spend all of that money i don’t have?
wild animals
an illustrated childrens book entitled ‘wild animals’ from graphic designer ‘rop van mierlo’, most of them look a bit more cuddly than ‘wild’ though…
he has made clever use of the ‘smearing’ technique of paint or ink & water on paper, which works really well to describe the structure of fur or feathers it seems…
many thanks to ‘thijs’ for the tip…
