artist ‘jason salavon’ creates new images by laying multiples of the same image on top of each other in what he describes as ‘mean averaging’, it reminds me somewhat of the work of german photogrpaher michael wesely who uses multiple exposures and extreme shutter times to similar effect… (tip via ‘thijs’ thanks!)
last week i attended a lecture series but had to leave before ‘motionographer’ got on stage, fortunately director ‘matt lambert’ who runs the blog has been kind enough to post a series of links to the pieces he showed that evening at the panic room, this little gem is one of my favourites…

The Sapeurs today belong to ‘La SAPE’ (Societe des Ambianceurs et des Personnes Elegantes) – one of the world’s most exclusive clubs. Members have their own code of honour, codes of professional conduct and strict notions of morality. It is a world within a world within a city.
Designer brands of suits and accessories are of the utmost importance to Sapeurs – Pierre Cardin, Roberto Cavalli, Dior, Fendi, Gaultier, Gucci, Issey Miyake, Prada, Yves Saint Laurent, Versace, Yohji Yamamoto – are their patron saints. Unlike some US hip-hop gangs who are dressed in similar fine threads, there is no bloodshed here – here your clothes do all the fighting for you, otherwise you are not fit to be called a Sapeur. The result is a unique and inspiring style, that has captured the imagination of people all over the world – the sapeurs are now truly the kings of elegance.

it’s been a busy week, amongst other stuff, i attended the ‘design career’ event vroaam! last thursday, and gave a talk with my friend ‘pepijn’ from agency ‘dawn’; the idea was that we were to explain briefly how we came to do what we do, then an interviewer was going to try and discover the difference between working for a boss versus going solo… i’m not sure that was what we ended up talking about, but it was fun to do and i tried to make an interesting presentation by not being too serious about it all, whether i succeeded is up to others to say i guess
then i spent the afternoon doing portfolio surgery with students, the hand-embroidered poster (above) by ‘julia’ made me smile… (sorry i forgot her full name but then again she didn’t have a business card… oops) there was a lot of good work but i find it a daunting idea that these young designers are being launched into a market that could prove to be too tough for some… so i tried to give them some useful advice… good luck
