join the dots

hansje kindly sent me a better quality image of her ‘best verzorgde boeken 2009’ book cover due for release next week… the actual final design will feature linnen and foil stamping so this still doesn’t really do it justice…

geometric death frequency 141

an amazing sculpture built entirely by robots but devised by a human named ‘frederico diaz’

…made from 420,000 black spheres made and assembled by robotics. the final sculpture will measure 20 feet by 50 feet and sit in the courtyard of the museum. the installation is precisely crafted from robotics, milling and assembling the entire sculpture sphere by sphere, completely void of any human interaction. diaz developed this process for building on his own using CAD software and manufacturing techniques along with pure data and algorithms based on particle physics. with this system each sculpture is completely untouched by human hands from concept to materialization.

temporary books

the ‘best dutch book design’ expo (featuring one of my books this year) will launch at the ‘temporary’ stedelijk museum next week, starting with an opening event where the accompanying publication will be presented on friday evening…

thankfully the design of the catalogue was in the competent hands of hansje van halem this year, a (very lo-res) sneak preview of the cover is shown above

nice site, shame about the music

a funky website designed by ‘momkai’ is being employed to launch the new album by dutch artist pete philly, complete with free downloads and lots of little graphic shapes that move around and do things… (via ‘fontanel)
