apocalypse in denver, colorado…

…a 32 foot high fiberglass stallion with veins popping out of its whole body and demonic eyes that glow red… and that’s just the statue of the horse of the apocalypse at the entrance…

this has got to be one of the most bizarre stories i’ve read in a while, don’t take it from me, just read the whole story and watch the you tube documentary too

the fact that the airport was built in the shape of a swastika is by no means the weirdest fact…

if you forget the fact that they have just recalled tens of thousands of cars in the US then this is a really nice little toyota ad, a similar principle to the old ‘heat electric’ ads from the UK made by aardman, animating to an existing voice-over…

sustainable type

…it’s impossible to think about sustainable design without considering typography. For this workshop, the challenge was to reduce, reuse and recycle. The idea was to create a font family with less shapes, reuse them and after print on recycled newspaper… the four participants really understood how to make typography sustainable. By only using around three simple shapes, they all created a complete alphabet of different style. From blackletter, to geometric and showcard…

mind numbingly turgid stuff

renowned british designer ‘mike dempsey’ struggles to come to terms with the state of highstreet graphic design, i feel what’s he’s saying… in all fairness the UK is undoubtedly a lot worse than the netherlands (so far) in that respect but danger looms…

…imagine spending three years hard graft at art college dreaming the dreams and longing for that day when you can join a decent design company. But you don’t, instead you end up working on one of the above titles. Yes, I know it’s a job in these difficult economic times, but is it going to improve the standard of design?…
