type player 2

a new book entitled type player 2 arrived in the post this week featuring two of our projects, published by ‘ginko press’ in china, the book is nicely made and well researched, although a few of the projects i noticed are clearly bad rip-offs from better known work by other designers… i guess it’s time i stopped allowing people to publish the ‘suikerdepĂ´t’ identity however, it’s been in so many books in the past few years and is already more than four years old, time to move on…

pick n mix

all 45 DDA nominees have been announced this week, including the selection for the ‘communication’ category which i was part of… overall i’m pretty pleased with the selection but there is bound to be quite a bit of discussion in the field, as there was on the jury days too

by the way if anyone has a beef about the quality of the selection or the fact that you are not selected, you are kindly invited not to contact me and bitch about it (again)… just to be clear the group which selected this work consisted of more than 15 people not just me, nepotism isn’t a factor, you are naive if you believe it is and if you don’t believe me try sitting in a jury yourself someday or even better make some good work and win…thanks, now i’ve got that off my chest…

It was a chance encounter with a poet that led us to the streets of NY with a 16mm camera, an old DAT recorder and short-end rolls of film. We thought it would be interesting to film poets on location and cut portraits out of it. We did it without plan or budget because we’re not serious filmmakers. Most of the footage was already shot 7 years ago, but without knowing what to do with it, the footage got shelved. Only later we edited the footage down to all the bits that interested us and from there a story line organically evolved…
