one of my favourite dutch poster designers michiel schuurman, took a job as a textile designer for dutch brand ‘vlisco’ some while ago, since then i’ve been really looking forward to seeing his output
he finally ‘outed’ himself this week on facebook and showed us what he has been up to with the vlisco 2013 collection… amazing stuff
whilst visiting the dutch design awards last week, i finally got a chance to see the excellent anton beeke exhibition at the piet hein eek gallery, ending this week it is worth the trip if you have time… amongst other things they had the complete set of the rather odd ‘bacchanten’ triptych which he made for the dutch national ballet (his first and last job for them)
as a symbol for the upcoming belfast festival in ireland, artist jorge rodriguez-gerada has created the image of a small girls’ face in a ploughed field, using just soil and sand; the installation entitled ‘wish’ covering some 11 acres of land the image will only be visible for a short time as the wet weather is already decaying the image…
last weekend i had fun attending the dutch design week and the dutch design awards 2013 ceremony on saturday evening; for which i was kindly invited by the organisation, as usual well organised and some well-deserved winners too this year
one of my favourite pieces was the funky collection of inside-out trainers by elisa van joolen (pictured at the top), whilst the whole idea of deconstruction, reapproprating objects or thinking back to front may not be new, these were particularly well executed and pure fun to see… the lower image is actually from a different designer, but clearly someone with a similar vein of thought…
