my friend and photographer ‘andré thijssen’ occasionally sends me some very interesting electronic music via mail, today he sent me a link to his updated site and new online stock library (with a difference) have a look for yourself

i attended a few openings during the rainy weekend, firstly on saturday was the official unveiling of spencer tunick’s project for the dream amsterdam festival, it turned out to be a wet dream in more ways than one, it was utterly disappointing to see spencer tunick arrive in a boat accompanied by the publicity-hungry woman (who organised the whole over-inflated project) acting very pompously & playing ridiculous loud r&b music only to unveil a very average digital canvas print of one of the photos, and on the reverse was another whole billboard (equally as big as the photo itself) covered in sponsor logos, call that art? keep on dreaming… you can view it on the ‘leliegracht’ in amsterdam until the end of august, but don’t rush…

secondly there was a show in arnhem for the fashion festival going on there this summer, the strongest work on show is by wendelien daan and maurice scheltens, worth a look if you are in town…also there was a magazine presentation and a party by the girls from capricious as usual featuring lots of alternative imagery with an anarchic feel to it… love it or hate it kind of stuff

late last night i attended a screening of helvetica the movie by american documentary film-maker ‘gary hustwit’, several of the designers interviewed were in attendance (wim crouwel and experimental jet set) and there was a chance to talk to the maker himself afterwards, i’d definitely recommend seeing the film, it’s very well made and actually manges to hold your attention for 1 and a half hours, even if you’re not a typography nerd (like most of the people who attended last night were) the sole reason he made the film, he said, was because he assumed that a film about this subject already exsisted and when he discovered it didn’t he decided to make it himself, in classical indie-film style by borrowing money on credit cards and asking friends to help… he’s done a great job and i found it very inspiring

erik spierkermann apparently said some very unkind things about microsoft which don’t appear in the film buy may be included on the forthcoming dvd version as extras

even if you don’t like his films, you’ve got to admire him for this

a copy of the magazine from last week’s ‘le monde’ arrived by post from france this week, my friend ‘alex ten napel’ had a large series from his ‘water portraits’ featured in it, see ‘me work’ for the book i made for him
