i found some old 3d design sketches i made for a series of commemorative coins for the dutch royal mint (commissioned by an artist friend of mine) about three years ago, the idea was to make the images using etched layers (8 or 9 depths) down into the coin using ‘contour maps’ based on tone values to create a face
shame this project didn’t go ahead it would have been great to see this realised…

i am a big fan (and collector) of the work of flemish woodcutter frans masereel (1888-1972), he was a commited socialist and made illustrated books that were often based around social themes and the plight of the working classes, one of my favourites is ‘the story without words’ of which i’ve owned a facsimile for years, i recently found an original german imprint dating back top 1927, which is beautiful
the latest ‘type directors club annual’ arrived from new york today and the quality of the work is very high as usual…
