a new trendy lifestyle store (well, what else should i call it?) has just opened in ‘antwerp’ belgium, called MELT it’s the brain-child of ‘rob van gijzelen’ ex CD at VBAT in amsterdam, i haven’t seen it yet so no idea what it’s like, the graphics were done by my japanese friend Kosuke Hashijima who has just relocated back to tokyo
nice idea, shame about the music… UK newcomers ‘the get out clause’ had a very newsworthy idea for their first video-clip: they performed in public all over town, thereby getting themselves shot on all kinds of CCTV cameras (there are over 13 million CCTV cameras in the UK alone) they then used a clause in the ‘data protection and privacy laws’ to get hold of the footage featuring themselves and used it to edit the video together, the PR they have generated so far says it all, great idea… see it here
late last year my friend jacques koeweiden launched a new design label ‘because’ that works solely on ‘socially responsible’ design projects, the work made for the ‘ramadam festival’ in amsterdam (shown here) is probably my favourite stuff ‘because’ has produced so far, very nice, it is all based on oriental decorative patterns…
