i just got hold of a monograph on studio boot a group of very friendly people who have always steered away from the mainstream, they are located far from the ‘amsterdam scene’ in breda and their work has a very strong own illustrative style, i haven’t spoken to edwin or petra since their wedding years ago, but it’s good to see their still going strong…
i got some very sad news this weekend… after a period of illness ‘frank nijhof’ passed away on the 3rd of september, he was joint owner of the best design bookshop in amsterdam (or anywhere come to think of it) my condoleances to warren and the family
i got a mail from vos broekema who also made a book with a bullethole through it together with whis partner in crime ‘thijs verbeek’, he also has a really nice logo, if you ask me (vos is dutch for ‘fox’) it reminds me somewhat of piet zwart’s simple monogram
my last job before retiring from the ‘art directors club’ board this year was to appoint the stone twins to make the ADCN annual for this year and i’m very glad i did…
the idea they came up with took the idea of ‘creative work that hits the spot’ very literally… thet got the army to shoot a large caliber bullet through the centre of each and every book, which i think is a fabulous idea, the result i still haven’t seen but its being presented later this month (on the 29th) in amsterdam, looking forward to that a lot, thanks lads!
