i wonder how you rub out a mistake when you write stuff at this size on grass? looks fun to do though…

well that was fun (no really i’m not being sarcastic) i didn’t win the cinema poster awards this afternoon, the poster for ‘the muse’ did, so congratulations to ‘studio beige’
being nominated was already flattering enough (honestly) and we were all interviewed live on TV (VPRO – Ned2) at lunchtime during the ‘film festival journal’ in utrecht which was a new experience anyway

i met a couple of minor celebrities and had some interesting chats with the other designers, including comedian and actor ‘the maassen’ who designed his own poster for the film ‘tbs’
the TV show from today can be seen here (dutch only) and there is also an interesting ‘behind the scenes’ documentary on ‘calimucho’ online here
i finally met the director of ‘calimucho’: eugenie jansen too and apparently the film hasn’t been nominated for a single award at the festival this year… which i find unbelievable, it’s a really unique film and should have been nominated for just about everything, judging by the reactions i heard from other guests and several other directors today, i’m not alone in this opinion…
damn! this is an idea i had for a corporate identity a while ago, now someone’s already done it… looks great, the guy also entered the whole thing (including himself in person) for a design prize

more images and the whole story on michael johnson’s blog

i have a weakness for hi-res satellite images like this fabulous glacier image from greenland, the entire image can be seen on the ‘nasa’ site (and enlarged by clicking it)

my bookcase is starting to creak under the weight of all the new books that are constantly arriving… like the new ‘adcn’ yearbook which was released last night

the stone twins came up with the concept of shooting a bullet through the book (the dutch army were pleased to oblige) the annual has been designed with a whole series of targets throughout and the bullet hole often goes straight through the work, which i love as it sometimes creates unusual effects
however it will also be (for some) a reason to complain that their work has been ‘ruined’ oh well you can’t please everyone… fortunately

the cover and the page edges have been made using the brightest, most radioactive dayglo pink covolor i have ever seen… almost painful to look at, nicely done lads…
