fully booked

this beautiful series of covers was designed by ‘coralie bickford-smith’ using the ‘cyanotype’ technique…

i came across them on the penguin blog, there is a video of her talking about the designs and the ‘romek marber’ two-tone crime series from the 60’s that inspired her…

another interesting site on book jacket design that i have just discovered is this one, lots of unfriendly comments by flamers here… the gestalten tv podcast site also has an interesting interview with some top-notch book cover designers (click on ‘fully booked’)

bastardised

the people from ‘bunch’ are launching their ‘bastardised’ book for the ‘made in bunch’ crowdsource project (which i took part in recently) this week in london, i got an invite but won’t be able to make it sadly, looking forward to seeing the book though…

uncle ‘jacques’

jacques tati dressed as the ever-curious ‘monsieur hulot’ wandering aimlessly in the modern world is the one of the most perfect icons you could ever wish to have as a film poster designer

a quick scan online shows that the tati ‘icon’ was always used to maximum effect in the wonderful series of posters that were made for his (no less wonderful) films… in a sense the tati figure is a logo that can adapt for each implementation without losing any of it’s unique character

although the styles varied considerably (as shown here) all of the posters seem to share a common esthetic feel and even the foreign adaptations that were made over the years have stayed fairly true to the original tati style, very inspiring if you ask me…

seventeen (is god a what?)

i am currently reading the new book by bill drummond (ex frontman of nineties group ‘the KLF) entitled ’17’ which is, like all of his stuff, very entertaining… there is an accompanying website here which might not make a lot of sense unless you’ve read the book (based on what i’ve read so far: worth the read) the book refers to a second website with the fabulous title penkiln burn that contains all of bill’s manifestos… confused? just read the book… music is dead…
