new work

the ‘nieuwlichters’ poster for the dutch national ballet arrived back from the printers this week (one of my favourites from this year) and the ‘ballets russes’ one is on it’s way to the printers, the image was inspired by an image made for a ballet entitled ‘afternoon of a faun’ in the 1920’s

that particular ballet has now been dropped from the production, we have however, decided to run the image anyway as it feels right for this particular production which takes place during the annual ‘holland festival’ event in june…

guy

some appealing work from florian seidel to cheer you up on a friday afternoon (it worked for me) the top image in particular has a very ‘bourdin-esque’ feel to it, the lower two i just like, because… well because it’s friday afternoon really

and the winners will be…

i am nursing a serious hangover this morning after attending the panl awards last night, as usual what is often very noticeable each year are the amount of people who don’t enter, which tends to give an imbalanced view on dutch photography…

there was a bit of a riot because the results were accidentally published a day too early by ‘adformatie’ magazine, overall winner was arthur mebius whose mig fighter jets in an albanian mountain hideout series, cannot yet be seen on his site

two other winners who caught my eye were a ‘deserted swimming pool’ series by joost berndes (also not yet on his site) and these very funky underwater images by dindi van der hoek

sharp

if you have ever cycled around amsterdam you will no doubt be familiar with the work of grafitti artist and poet laser314 who often chooses empty wood panelling for his abstract messages…
love it or hate it, but it’s usually hard to miss

the following text comes from an interview he did back in ’05:
And he?s prolific, too. Not in the sense of taggers, who repeat their initials all over the place like automatons. Laser 3.14 seldom repeats a performance anywhere. I have collected more than 60 of them, and I have not doubt there are lots more. They cover a wider range of topics and tones than you?d expect from your average writer. ?Kenny Loggins drove me to drink.? ?Her eyes dead her pain fierce.? ?Exit the white dove.? ?I never picked cotton.?
