fem’s dioramas

and now for something completely different… look at these funky little dioramas, a street scene at the shibuya crossing in tokyo, life on amsterdam’s canals, in the swiss alps or late night in the disco, in fact they are a series of crazy little brooches which have been created by my wife ‘femke’

the scenes are all contained in little boxes (about the size of a matchbox) and the first series have just been completed and will be going on sale in a small shop in amsterdam, she plans to make many more too in the near future

if you’re interested in buying one let me know and i’ll put you in touch, only two weeks till christmas… oh yeah did i mention that my clever wife made them? #proud

my corolla

if you forget the fact that they have just recalled tens of thousands of cars in the US then this is a really nice little toyota ad, a similar principle to the old ‘heat electric’ ads from the UK made by aardman, animating to an existing voice-over…

sustainable type

…it’s impossible to think about sustainable design without considering typography. For this workshop, the challenge was to reduce, reuse and recycle. The idea was to create a font family with less shapes, reuse them and after print on recycled newspaper… the four participants really understood how to make typography sustainable. By only using around three simple shapes, they all created a complete alphabet of different style. From blackletter, to geometric and showcard…

interesting typography workshop as reviewed by john thackara on design observer…
