as human as possible

type designers have been trying this one for years, now ‘underware’ have had a go too: mr porter he’s almost human

…we tried to make him as human as possible, not only being different all the time, but also including obvious shortcomings. Funny enough it takes a highly intelligent font to have fully controlled imperfections. The result is a single typeface with a strong relation between the glyph set (which characters should be in the font) and the way these glyphs work together…

i came across this striking flyer made by elusive designer will holder for amsterdam art institute ‘de appel‘, he created this identity for them a few years back and it still really stands out

will was teaching at the rietveld academy a few years back but i have no idea where he’s at now, does anybody know? it would be good to catch up if you’re still in town will…

a book for the mobile generation

during a recent visit to amsterdam, stefan sagmeister showed a brief glimpse of his latest project which has now officially been released this week: a radio-controlled car/book on culture for BMW, in true sagmeister hype-style the book has a limited edition of 1488 copies, each with a unique cover that when laid out together combine to make a 7 x 7 meter visualisation of BMW’s famous offices…

the book is of course not for sale and therefore already much in demand

i just spotted the latest poster from dutch studio ‘mevis en van deursen’ for the ‘temporary stedelijk 2’ season for the amsterdam modern art museum (currently undergoing a troublesome/delayed facelift) this has to be one of the strongest and simple identities i’ve seen this year…
