seventy five

penguin is one of those institutions that brits always cite when it comes to british design classics and they are celebrating their seventy fifth birthday this year, with a new book (actually being released by penguin USA) entitled ‘penguin 75’

there is an in-depth interview about the book with the creative director of penguin ‘paul buckley’ over on design related this month and amongst the contributors to the book are ‘chris ware’ and ‘art spiegelman’, sounds great and i’ve already ordered it…

between common sense and uncommon nonsense

i just got hold of a beautiful new book by photographer, artist and (rietveld academy) teacher uta eisenreich who uses photography as a means rather than an end in itself, the publication entitled ‘A not B’ consists of a series of striking or mundane, installations inspired by non-verbal IQ tests for children using everyday domestic objects… the book design was in the very competent hands of julia born and can be ordered via arty publisher roma

stand up(side down)

i have just added a new project to ‘me work’ a photobook made for my friend ‘paul d. scott’ who shot a series of young dutch gymnasts (the dutch word is ‘turners’ which also became the book’s title) hanging around in some very impressive positions in the comfort of their own homes back in 2008…

if ever i’ve made a photobook that was well-suited to the medium, it is this one… the images are positioned in such a way that the book needs to be constantly revolved and flipped to get your bearings… all great fun, the book is not yet for sale but if you are interested in obtaining a copy, do let paul know
