re-use me
this design below is a flyer i have just made for my friend (and client) nathalie from ’60 layers of cake’ the idea is a design competition to create new uses for discarded PVC advertising banners… go on take part and surprise us, we intended to use actual discarded sheets for this invite but we discovered that they cannot be reprinted unfortunately (due to a coating on top) so the ‘recycled look’ has been faked, by me… the ‘facade’ competition is part of the ‘dutch design double’ event taking place in amsterdam later this month
and just in case the text is impossible to read, here it is again:
RE:FRAME
What can be designed from old scaffolding sheets apart from bags? Thousands of kilos of advertising, scaffolding sheets are thrown away while on the other hand a sustainable re-use is highly feasible. Communication platform ?60 layers of cake? is curious how you can recycle these PVC-sheets and turn them into new products.
The assignment: recycle, redesign and reframe!
Designers, inventors and otherwise interested parties are hereby invited to come up with a surprising design. The only restriction is the material being pre-used scaffolding sheeting (PVC Frontlit or Mesh). All entries will be judged by an expert jury in the field of communication and design, including designers Tejo Remy and Jos van der Meulen. Special attention will be paid to originality and feasibility production-wise. Information on participation, entering a design and obtaining scaffolding sheets can be found on the website: HYPERLINK "http://www.60layersofcake.com" www.60layersofcake.com (see ?competition?). Designs can be entered until January the 19th 2010.
Reward
Re:frame is a project by ?60 layers of cake?, a collaborative communication platform from Amsterdam. We will be aiming to take the winning design into production. Next to this a large number of the designs will be shown in an exhibition.

concerto in the making
saturday afternoon was spent in the studio with ‘ruud’ and two young dancers ‘erica’ and ‘rachel’ shooting the latest ballet poster ‘concerto’ we constructed a simple black & white backdrop to contrast with the two dancers, a very ‘graphic’ sort of look
the shoot went very smoothly and we managed to produce an elegant and simple image… more news soon… (i’ve just noticed a coincidental similarity between the image of the dancers below and the vector drawing in the previous post)
