i’m pretty late with this story on the 2012 olympics pictograms and as usual it’s caused quite a stir so i’ll avoid giving an opinion, there are already plenty to read online, sure not an easy job but let’s just say i’m not a fan either…

michael johnson is working on an interesting phonetic language experiment which he’s dubbed phonetikana that combines japanese and english, which is also featured in ‘eye’ magazine this month

well congratulations to all of the winners on saturday at the ‘dutch design awards’ i wasn’t one of them but i also genuinely didn’t expect to be… the whole list can be seen here

still i spent the weekend in the company of some good friends and colleagues and got to see some amazing work, the level is very high and the ‘dutch design week’ in eindhoven is hosting a number of very interesting shows, including the designhuis ‘graduation show’, the design academy show and of course the green house showing all of the finalists from the ‘dda’, worth a visit if you have time this week, gert dumbar also picked up the ‘piet zwart prijs’ and, as usual, didn’t miss an opportunity to bore everybody with his views on marketing… the dutch design yearbook was also launched on saturday and is now on sale…

i was back in the photo studio briefly today, shooting an image of the beautiful ‘anna tsygankova’ with antwerp-based image maker ‘ingrid baars’, we are making the poster for the upcoming ballet production ‘don quichot’, the picture will be reworked by ingrid into a portrait/collage of anna in a mix of spanish style elements… the starting point was several images of from her portfolio, like these two shown… more news soon (the amateurish picture of anna is mine, not ingrid’s!)

p.s. the misses and i are off to eindhoven for a couple of days, time to meet some old friends and have a few beers
