toilet roll modernism

whilst visiting the ‘rodchenko’ expo at foam last week i noticed several images made by him for children’s books using cardboard figures and was struck by the similarity to those made by ‘piet zwart’ in his famous ‘het boek van PTT’ also made for children, zwart was always very much influenced by rodchenko as can be seen here (the two black and white photographs above and below are his, the rest are piet zwart) more images of the PTT book can be seen in ‘me stuff’ (posted in january 2008)

le monde musulman

very talented iranian designer and now dutch resident ‘reza abedini’ quitely launched his own design firm back in 2009: orientation lab accompanied two other talented figures from the local design community, paul hughes (lava) and miss anne miltenburg (ex-dumbar), they are focusing their efforts on inter-cultural projects which seems like a logical choice although i cannot yet discover very easily what projects they are making, other than a talk to explain to ‘renault’ how to sell their cars in the arabic world and a beautiful calendar that landed on my desk last week, which they have made… one to watch
