in the life of another

british filmmaker ‘nic askew’ shoots in black & white and places his camera close-up at talking distance; he then lets people do just that: talk about their ordinary/extraordinary lives… like alison wood, 93 yrs old at the time of filming

… the urge to live is extremely strong isn’t it?…

you can see the whole of his impressive shorts collection here, ‘the second glance’ starring david roche also stuck in my mind… (via ‘david s’ on facebook)

over 1 million viewers in less than 24 hours

this ‘pixels-in-real-life’ genre of film has been done many many times before, but this one entitled simply pixels is also well-executed, not much of a plot but very slick… and it seems to have been getting plenty of viewers recently

you could hear a pin drop…

it’s been a bit more relaxed in the studio this week, so i finally got round to using the ‘downtime’ (they should really call it ‘up time’ i guess) for making a personal project involving many rolls of kite string, thousands of steel pins and lots of patience… more news soon, it will be published as a spread in a new one-off magazine due to launch in early may… as i heard ‘rené knip’ say during a lecture yesterday ‘it’s the process that is becoming more important and not necessarily the end result’ i agree completely, these kinds of personal projects are becoming more and more an essential component of the way i work and want to/need to work…
