highly strung

my experimental type design is coming along nicely, it’s fascinating to start on this kind of adventure without having a definite idea of where it’s heading although i do wish i didn’t keep on thinking up ideas that are so labour intensive to make…

suikerdepo…ster

the poster i made for the ‘suikerdepot’ pop-up shop arrived back yesterday, it was a bit of a ‘rush job’ but i’m still pleased with it…

celebrity, fashion, advertising… he did it all

many thanks to my mate ‘dominic davies’ for pointing this one out: the BBC documentary on sixties icon & bad-boy ‘brian duffy’ has been put online, a very enjoyable hours’ worth of soundbites & urban legend tales….

update: oops i forgot the link, enjoy…

here are some memorable ones i noted:

…the photographers were the stars; not the models…

…i really enjoyed the war, no i really mean it i enjoyed the war…

…easier than drawing, so i thought "i know what i’ll do… i’ll take up photography"…

…look what was happening a year before in editorial photography and then a year later; it was a new era…

…all of the pictures were dodgy birds with their teeth showing…

…bring the goblin round & i’ll shoot him…

…a bit of a bastard, but one you enjoyed inviting round for dinner…

…(photography) is the only thing any numb-skull can do…

…i’m an innocent bystander, helping culture & art…

…he said "can you make it expensive?"
i said "no problem lovey!"…

…advertising: that was 99% of my work? crap…

…that morning i decided to burn… my negatives…

…art photography is a very very modern idea…

duffy on himself: he wasn’t as steady as a tripod…

left-wing hobbies

the far-right dutch politician ‘geert wilders’ will no doubt at some time in the future be suggesting an old custom from 1930’s germany: book burning… in the meantime he has made a plea to cut the budgets for all of the ‘left-wing hobbies’ as he calls them, an anonymous collective (why not say who you are?) has started distributing small red stickers that can be placed on any form of culture that fits the bill, to remind us all of what he wants to get rid of… nice idea and they are all over the place, everywhere around town… but for how long if the brown-shirts actually get back into power?

the dutch designers association (BNO) has launched a new site/blog concerned with all things ‘visual’ called: ooglijm, the site is however dutch only…
