quality design publishing house ‘unit editions’ are due to release a new title: TD 63-73 which according to the blurb is
…the story of Total Design’s golden period. It contains hundreds of images from the TD archive, and in Ben Bos’s text the reader is given an ‘up close and personal’ history of a design group that remains as important today as it did when it launched in the icy winter of 1963…

i must admit that i often find some of the hero worshiping of the old TD a bit over the top, but this book does look really good and sounds like a serious overview, so my copy is already on pre-order

broken glass

i am currently doing a quick revamp of a book cover design i made several years back for a novel… the technique i chose was to shoot an old sepia photo through a sheet of glass covered in water droplets, which looked great but is very complicated to modify, now i understand why books covers are often so simple

materialism

i regularly follow the work and ponderings of talented designer hansje van halem, whose experimentation with materials i find very inspiring… she has even taken up the old art of ‘crochet’, so at least i’m not the only one with a string obsession

best foot forward

i attended the first shoot of the new season for the ‘dutch national ballet’ with photographer erwin olaf, to get the ball rolling we shot a minimalist close-up for the season campaign with the left foot of the beautiful armenian ballerina ‘viktoriya ananyan’, the image should be ready soon…

i finally ran out of time and more importantly of steel pins… so this is the finished piece a magazine page on the theme of ‘boring’, i chose a quote from author ‘dylan thomas’ which struck a chord with me personally…
