book things

i got some great news late on friday afternoon; for the second consecutive year we have been selected for the annual dutch best book design competition 2010, this time not one but with two books, again from the ‘dingen’ children’s books series (transport things & amsterdam things)

looks like we didn’t win the ‘smallest entry’ prize this year though, there appears to be a few even smaller ones amongst the 33 selected books… i’m very flattered although it seems odd to select new books in an existing series, especially one which has already won before…

the selected designers are, amongst others: irma boom, joost grootens, mevis & van deursen, hans gremmen, bockting ontwerpers, robin uleman and julia born

juxtapose

i just came across these beautiful manipulated images by john stezaker, whose work (according to the saatchi gallery blurb):

jm

i recently posted about a book designed by jamie mitchell and just got round to checking his website, which is definitely worth a visit too… some of the work with clear type and baroque paintings have a distinct saville-esque quality about them…

he is also featured on the IdN site this month and has an article in their latest ‘minmalism’ issue…
