I attended the opening of alex ten napel’s show at the ton peek gallery in utrecht today…. me studio produced a book for him about this series, late last year (you can see it in an earler post)

the dutch photography association (PANL) have comissioned me to make a short intro film for their awards evening next thursday… I have been working on it for weeks now and the idea is simply a sequence of pictures of different locations around amsterdam, shot using my small digital camera with the ‘quick shot’ function… I have manipulated the images frame for frame in photoshop to add photographs from the awarded work and then put it all together as stop motion animation… it’s an incredibly lengthy process and a ridiculous way to produce film but it’s been very interesting to make, the rule I placed on myself is that I had to be able to make it myself using only the software and knowledege I have…

the pictures shown here are from a small supermarket near my office that i have been shooting everyday for the past month, I intend to make a new film based around this sequence in the coming months, trying to refine the idea as the technique develops… oh yeah the andy warhol quote (my favourite of his) is this: ‘isn’t life a series of images that change as they repeat themselves?’ he had a valid point, i think

I received a beautiful little annual report from new york this week from a designer who goes under the name feltron the guy actually made an anuual report of his own year (restaurants visited, music bought etc) well worth a look, he may even send you one if you ask nicely….
