tokyo architecture

the top building is the prada store on ‘omote sando’ (the yuppy fashion street) where all the big brands try to out-do each other with really over the top flagship stores… and just like the prada store in new york, appearances can be deceptive, the outside promises much more than they deliver on the inside…

not me

this is the billboard wendelien daan and i made for the ‘foto festival naarden – buy me’ project, it was in the dutch magazine adformatie yesterday but unfortunately they put the wrong credit under our work… great thanks adformatie :(
you can see it for yourself until june the 10th in naarden, the official opening is next week tuesday afternoon 4pm

we kept the design and type down to a bare minimum, because the logo of second life combined with the image said enough, also the intention was to show the future of advertising and in my opinion it would be interesting if clients were braver and made bolder statements, advertisers who are confident enough to be understated are few and far between at the moment, they all seem to have read the same marketing books and think that you need to say everything in one ad…

tokyo billboards

i really like the middle one, a confident piece of advertising ‘this is what it looks like’, the bottom one is typically japanese in my opinion, not sure what it says (do co mo is the largest phone company in japan) but the colour bars are a nice graphic abstraction of the line ‘am-pm’

technical drawings and funky illustrations are often used

the middle one was a geniune wanted poster on a police station, the bad-guys obviously wear dark shades…
