4AD(ominic)

my friend, photographer dominic davies gave me a really beautiful (and very collectable) old 4AD calendar made by Vaughan Oliver today, that he found in a cupboard (after more than 14 years) it’s the last remaining 4AD calendar that I didn’t yet have…

pictured are the pages from april (jim friedman) and may (dominic davies) thanks mate…

tokyo toons

one of the things that struck about japan is the obsession with characters and figurines, I suppose i knew about this before i went but it was still fascinating to see how any object or sign or logo is a chance to create a character or funny, cute animal of some kind, here’s a small selection of blue ones (more to come)

the home-made adidas dog was in a shop window

tokyo architecture #2

the building above took me a while to work out, even when i was stood in front of it… it’s actually a piece of neo-classical ‘fake’ of the worst kind with a modern skyscraper stuck on top of it (it’s not behind it) very weird, I also saw a complete skyscraper that looked like it was built in red brick, a closer look revealed that it was actually concrete with a plastic film with a fake brick pattern print stuck on it… the whole building…

now i know where ridley scott got his inspiration for his classic film ‘blade runner’
